Blog Post #6

The technology is becoming more developing, our life are also becoming more industrialized, such as the cars, the clothes, the foods and so on.  When we shop in the supermarkets or stores, there are many food was processed or became ready to eat.  So few of people would think about where the food comes from and how we get it in the stores.  The Meatrix movies get us an exactly awareness that where are our food come from.

The Meatrix movies show a factory farm, as farms have become more industrialized, animals have become more of a commodity. They are considered units of production, rather than living, breathing beings, and as a result these animals are treated inhumanely.  They put the animal in a small place as closely together as possible.  The animals are too crowed to turn around.  The animals would fight each other because of too close.  The animals most are the cows, the pigs, and the chickens.  We get most meats, eggs, milk and cheese from them.

The factory farms add a constant dosage of antibiotic to their feed, just to keep these poor wretches alive.  And it also can make the animals grow faster.  The factory farm also pollutes the air and ground water, it destroyed community.  On the other hand, the factory farm want the everything is fast, so the meat packing become the most dangerous work in the nation.

Before I watched the Meaterix movies, I think the factory farm is perfect farm.  Because they use the technology and modern machine to feed and kill the animal, it would be quickly and cleanly.  But when I watched the movies, I was shocked what I saw in the movies.  The animal together in a small place, most animals never see sunlight, touch ground or get fresh air.  It’s too horrible to the animals.  And I can’t stand they are cutting off chicken’s beaks to avoid the chickens’ fighting.  It’s so cruel.  The factory farms even feed the baby cow in blood instead of milk; it would be easily make the cow get mad cow disease.  They never think it is bad for people’s health by this way.  They only pursue the benefit without responsibility.

They are so many factory farms, because factory farms can support more animal products in short time.  It’s easy to adapt to the American social.  The more products mean people can buy it in lower price.  I think it’s the reason why they are so many factory farms.  But the animal products were used too much antibiotics in factory farms.  This is contributing to growing problem of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in humans.  We should buy the animal products from family farm.  The products would be more healthy and fresher.  Maybe we would pay more money buy family farms’ products rather than factory farms’ products.   It’s worthy of our family’s health.

In a word, in order to protect the environment, the animals and our heath, we should support the family farm, buy their products; it could reduce the factory farms.  If everyone can do it, we will become healthier and have a better life.

Conserve Water, Protect life is the speaker’s main idea.  He shows us a lot of data to prove his ideal.  Thermoelectric use the most water is USA, about 49%.  Irrigation is 31% in water use in USA.  The other part is public supply and so on.  There are two parts of water footprint: direct and indirect.  Direct is use water come from a top, in direct is virtual water.  The speaker also gives us many examples that we can conserve water in our life.  Such as take shorter showers, recycle water, eat food that require less water to produce.  We can do a lot of things to conserve water and protect our life.

I know how important the water is in our life.  Even though sometime I still have some behaviors are wasting water, but I really want to change my behavior, I am making every effort to conserve water.  As we know, there are many countries lack water to live.  The water is the most important thing in their life.  They can’t take shower every day and drink water when they want to.  The water is just support to live without any waste.  We are so lucky that can live in a country can support enough water in our life.  But if we only use water as much as we like, there is not impossible we have to conserve water to support our life. So just do it, conserve water, protect life.

Problems with teenagers working

More and more teenagers are working while they are still in school.  For this situation, most people have different ideas.  Some people say that their first priority should be in school, the study is the most important thing in their life now.  Other people think it will benefit if teenagers can handle working part-time and attending school.  In my opinion, it is great to be able to get a job as a teenager, even though there are some problems.
Readers Respond: Opinions on Working Teens
Some people objected that teenagers get the job, because they think it would be influenced their study. School statistics say these are problems of students who have part-time jobs: Teenagers come into class sleepy 0r distracted; they never finish their homework; grade drop; they cut back on their social life…

Even though there are really have many problems, but we can’t deny that there are some good effects if teenagers work. The biggest effect is that they can have some experience that they can’t have in the school.  I really think it helps you to prepare for the future and what to expect, and it is also a great experience. It can give you a chance to see what it is like to earn and spend money of your own.  It’s a pretty chance that teenagers can learn to be independent and responsibility. This will help them when they grow up in the future.
